Release agent for aluminum gravity casting

Someone may think gravity die casting is just a process of pouring melted aluminum alloy into the permanent die. Actually when the gravity casting process was invited, some heat resistant solution was wiped onto the surface of the gravity casting mold's cavity. Such solution can be used to protect the cavity surface from corrosion by hot melted aluminum alloy, furthermore they found the film on the cavity which forms after the solution evaporates can also facilitate releasing the casting out of the mold. Along with the development of the gravity casting technology, people invited various types of coating solution for gravity casting. The know how of the coating solution of an aluminum gravity casting foundry represents its status of casting technology.

How to use coating solution for gravity casting

The coating solution should be sprayed onto the heated casting mold cavities evenly. The heated cavity should be able to evaporate the solution immediately when it was sprayed onto the cavity surface. Normally the mold should be heated by electric resister or gas gun to a temperature of 250 centigrade. After coating, the mold still has to be heated to even hotter temperature of 350 centigrade. Then it should be reduced again to 250 centigrade for another coating.

The utility of coating solution for gravity casting

1.Heat resistant coating to protect the cavity from corrosion normally the melted aluminum alloy can be hot to 650 centigrade. The mold cavity made by common carbon steel like C45 is subject to corrosion in such hot working environment. A heat resistant coating can be used to isolate cavity material from the melted alloy so as to protect it from corrosion.

2.Air releasing purpose There is a certain type of coating solution which can form a coarse film onto the cavity. The coarse film get the parting surface with slightly more space which however is good and enough for air releasing. Such solution is widely used for mold testing or casting large parts which are subject to air wrapping.

3.Increaseing surface smoothness purpose some coating solution can also be used to form a smooth film onto the cavities' surface which then get the aluminum gravity casting surface achieve fine smoothness. However using such coating solution is unfavorable for air releasing.

4.For purpose of partial rising The heat resistant coating can also be used to reduce the heat conduction. The section of an aluminum casting where is subject to shrinkage fault can be solved by using such coating solution.
